The Hoover Police Department and Target participated in "National Night Out" on Tuesday, August 4th from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for and encourage participation in local anti-crime programs, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships, and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are fighting back.
Free festivities included a cookout sponsored by the City of Hoover and Target. There were also displays by the Hoover Police Department, Hoover Fire Department, and Hoover-Jefferson County Air Support Unit. Citizens joined HPD Officers and had their children fingerprinted as a part of a family safety plan. The Police Department Mobile Command Center, SWAT team, Explosive Ordinance Disposal team, and seized Porsche 911 was on display. Motorcycle officers demonstrated the skills necessary to ride a police motorcycle. There was also an exotic car show along with numerous displays by area businesses.
